Create a Matching activity

How do you check participants' understanding of a concept by asking them to link elements together?

Create a Matching activity

  • Click "Add a slide" at the top left.

  • Select "Matching" at the bottom of the drop-down panel.

The activity is integrated into your presentation; it is saved automatically and appears as a slide in the navigation bar on the left. An editing panel appears automatically on the right-hand side of your screen.

Edit the title and instructions

  • The title defaults to the activity's name. To change it, delete the automatic title and enter your own question or a custom title.

  • Add instructions to provide more detail about your activity (optional).

Set the activity format

  • Choose the score allocated to the activity: the number of points the participant earns for a correct answer, between 0 and 10 points.

In the editing panel, build your matches:

  • The first box corresponds to the left side of the match.

  • The second box corresponds to the right side, to be linked with the first side.

  • Match a word or sentence, an image, or both.

  • To add an image, click "Image" to the right of the item, then choose an image from your device, from an external link, or from Beekast's built-in image bank.

  • The small red trash icon to the right of the item deletes an item.

  • You can add as many matches as you need.

💡Good to know

You cannot have fewer than three matches.

Set up the presentation and results

  • Turn on the option to display the number of live submissions.

  • Select the display mode after each answer or at the end of the activity.

  • You can add a launch setting. See our article on time settings.

Start and stop the activity

  • In participant-led scrolling mode (Self-Paced mode), the activity becomes automatically available as soon as it's saved.

  • In Live scrolling mode, the session owner or presenter must manually launch the activity by clicking the green "Start" button, at the top right of the slide.

  • To make the activity unavailable to participants, click "Stop", at the top right of the slide: participants can then no longer submit new answers.

  • As the owner/collaborator of a session, you can take part in an activity by clicking the Participate as tab, at the top of the activity slide, once it has been launched.

💡Good to know

  • When the activity starts, the matches already appear in random order.

  • In assessment activities, participants can no longer change their answer once it has been submitted.

Manage the activity's options

By clicking the 3 small dots at the top right of the activity, you can:

  1. Reset it.

  2. Edit the activity.

  3. Duplicate it.

  4. Delete the slide.

Alternatively, click the "Edit" button in the toolbar on the right side of the session.

Check the scores

As an assessment activity, Matching lets participants earn points based on the answers they select: a correct answer earns points, an incorrect answer earns none.

  • Points can be displayed by presenters and participants using the My Score button, located at the top of the screen, next to the Results button.

  • A small window shows information about the points earned and the activities involved.

Check the overall podium

  • Click the trophy icon on your activity to view the points earned: the individual ranking as a participant and the team ranking if you've added teams to your session.

  • To view the points earned across the whole session, go to the projection screen via the Present button, at the top right of the session.

  • See our article on the scoring system.
